Frankfort girls rout Clinton Prairie, 46-19

By Chris May

In a game that Frankfort
led 25-3 at halftime, the Hot Dogs had little trouble picking up their seventh
win of the season December 13 at home against Clinton Prairie, 46-19.

Despite playing without
senior guard Jennifer Stoms, who is out with a broken foot, Frankfort was still
able to turn up the defensive intensity in forcing 34 turnovers in the victory.

The Hot Dogs (7-3) started
strong, leading 12-0 at the end of the first quarter as 5’10”junior Brittney
Warmoth scored six points early.

The Gophers (2-7) got on
the scoreboard with their first points at the 6:19 mark of the second quarter
as Hillary Doyle hit their lone first half field goal, but Clinton Prairie was able
to manage only an additional free throw and trailed 25-3 at the game’s halfway
point.

By halftime, Frankfort’s
defense had forced 20 Clinton Prairie turnovers and had limited them to just eight
field goal attempts in the first two quarters.

It was the kind of night
for Clinton Prairie that was signified by Frankfort’s Graham Warwick’s buzzer
beating shot at the end of the second quarter in which the 5’4” sophomore
heaved a runner off of her hip from about 22 feet that went in the basket.

Frankfort’s defensive
effort continued in the third quarter as they outscored the visitors 8-2 and
held a 33-5 lead going into the final period.

The Hot Dogs’ lead grew
to 38-7 a minute into the fourth quarter before making mass substitutions.  Late in the game Clinton Prairie’s offense
found some rhythm as they hit five field goals in the final 5:16.

Frankfort was led by
Warmoth’s 12 points.  Sophomores Brook and
Blair Howe scored 10 points apiece with Blair swiping a team-high five steals
on the night.  5’11” senior Tasha Albaugh
came through with six points, sophomore Graham Warwick scored four, junior
Torie Foust finished with two and freshman starter Alex Thompson had a line of
two points, seven assists, four rebounds, and four steals.

For Clinton Prairie,
Doyle had eight points, junior Raelyn Rawlings scored six, sophomore Abby Myers
hit a three-pointer, and sophomore Tiffany Goodwin had two.

Frankfort
looks at a tough stretch of games next playing at 7-3 Benton Central December
15, while Clinton Prairie faces 6-3 4A Franklin in the opening round of the
December 29 Franklin Tournament.
